Plantation Shutters for Bathrooms

Bathrooms are the toughest room for any window covering: steam, humidity, splashes, and direct sun all at once. Our poly shutters are built for exactly this environment, and they look as good as the wood ones in your living room.

Best for

Master baths, guest baths, half baths, pool baths. Anywhere humidity and water are part of daily life.

Common questions

Should bathroom shutters be poly or real wood?

For bathrooms we recommend poly. Poly is moisture-resistant, so it holds up to steam, humidity, and splashes without swelling, cracking, or warping. Real basswood is a good choice in drier rooms, but a bathroom near a shower or tub is the one place where poly does the job better. The painted poly surface also wipes clean and the paint won't crack or peel in a wet room.

Can you put real wood shutters in a bathroom?

You can, but we steer most bathroom orders to poly instead. Real North American basswood performs well in living rooms and bedrooms, but constant steam and splashing in a bathroom can make wood swell or warp over time. If you want the look of wood in a damp space, our Polylux hybrid pairs a real-wood frame with poly louvers, which keeps the louvers stable where moisture hits hardest. For a master bath or anywhere near the shower, poly is the safer call.

How do you clean bathroom shutters after showers?

A damp cloth handles routine cleaning on poly bathroom shutters. The surface is smooth and non-porous, so steam and water spots wipe right off with no special cleaners and no maintenance schedule. After a hot shower, you can tilt the louvers open and run the exhaust fan to let condensation clear. Skip abrasive sponges and harsh chemicals so the painted finish stays smooth.

Can you make shutters for an arched bathroom window?

Yes. We build custom shutters to fit arched, oval, angled, and other non-standard bathroom windows. Every panel is made to measure at our Lake Forest factory, so the shutter follows the exact shape of your opening. For an arched window over a tub or near a shower, we use moisture-resistant poly so the custom shape holds up to humidity.

Are shutters better than blinds in a bathroom?

In a bathroom, poly shutters tend to outlast blinds and are easier to keep clean. The non-porous poly surface wipes down with a damp cloth and resists the warping that humidity causes in many blinds. Shutters also close tight for full privacy while still letting you tilt the louvers for light and airflow. They are a built-in, permanent fixture rather than a hanging product, so they read as a finished part of the room.
