Doors that work
French doors are the trickiest plantation install in the house. The handle needs to clear, the lock needs to clear, and the panels need to open and close with the door without binding. We've solved every one of these problems on hundreds of OC homes.
Best for
French doors leading to patios, balconies, or other rooms.
What sets it apart
We cut the panel to clear your specific hardware: handles, levers, locks. Templated to your door.
Panels mount directly to the door, opening and closing as a unit. No separate latches to fuss with.
5-knuckle mortised hinges hold heavier door-mounted panels straight over years of use.
Standard plantation louver control. Open for light, closed for full privacy.
Single or double French doors, full-height or transom, in any of our three materials.
Materials and workmanship covered for the life of the product.

See poly shuttersWe cut the panel so it clears your specific handle, lever, lock, and any deadbolt. We template the exact hardware on your door before building, so the cut-out lines up with the real handle position, not a generic guess. The panel mounts to the door and opens and closes with it, so you reach the handle the same way you do now. This is built at our Lake Forest factory and fits 2.5" or 3.5" louvers.
They mount directly onto the door itself, so each panel opens and closes as one unit with the door. This means there are no separate latches to deal with and nothing blocks the door from swinging. We use 5-knuckle mortised hinges that hold the heavier door-mounted panels straight over years of use. We build each set to your exact door rather than a stock size.
No. Because the panels mount to the door, they travel with it when you open or close, so the door operates normally. We size the panels to sit flat against the door and clear the casing, the handle, and the lock without binding. We check the door swing and any nearby walls or furniture during the in-home measure so nothing catches. Lead time is 3 to 5 weeks from order.
Yes. The louvers tilt open for a full view through the glass and natural light, then close for complete privacy. You get the same plantation louver control you would on a window, just door-mounted. Open them in the day, close them at night, and the door still works the whole time.
Yes. We build for single or double French doors, full-height panels, and transom windows above the door, in any of our three materials. Each panel is custom-made up to 48" wide and built to your opening at our Lake Forest factory. The three materials are North American basswood, moisture-resistant poly, and our exclusive Polylux hybrid with a real-wood frame and poly louvers.
